Every Christmas you get those gifts that would be better suited for the garbage can than wrapped up with a fancy bow. Whether it’s from an old aunt or grandma or a clueless sibling, sometimes you’ve got to put up with some strange gifts from family and friends. Here are a few things that I could do without getting for Christmas

Slippers

Hey grandma, I know you care about my feet warmth and all, but this is probably the tenth pair of slippers you have given me for Christmas in my lifetime. Not only that, but the poofy, furry slipper style isn’t really this year’s hot men’s slipper fashion, nor will it ever be. Also, the giant novelty Garfield slippers were kind of cute and funny at first but I don’t see myself ever wearing them except to get a quick, easy laugh from my friends or that chick that I took home from the bar last night. Thanks anyway grandma! But next year get me one of those new poker tables, please, thanks.

White Tees

While it is true that a man can never have too many white t-shirts and undershirts, it’s not exactly the most thoughtful or unique gift idea. Opening an elaborately wrapped Christmas present only to find it filled with boring, bland white t-shirts is a huge buzzkill and no matter how hard I try to feign appreciation, sometimes it’s hard to stifle my grimace. So, next time you give me white t-shirts for Christmas they better be made out of rabbit fur or something cool or else they are getting thrown back in your face.

Ties

Honest, most men (at least the ones I know) wear a tie maybe four or five times a year. I like ties, I enjoy ties, don’t get me wrong, but most of the time in my daily life they are just not practical—either I come off as a stuck up overachiever or I look like a Morman leaving church. I have three or four ties, and frankly, for the amount of time I actually wear them, that is plenty, I don’t need any more. Thanks for the thought, though!
