When placed on the floor a rug can help to make floor warmer. Many hard wood or tile floors are cold to walk on. Individuals can lay a rug on the floor to help insulate the room and to keep their feet warm.

Rugs are great for absorbing sound. Individuals who live in apartments with neighbors below them can lay a rug on the floor to help absorb sound from walking and to prevent sound from transferring up through the floor.
