Our Moral values still important?
Morals are the ethical motivations that each of us have. Our morals help us decide what is right and what is wrong. The area of morals is one of heavy controversy as each individual has different morals. As parents, it can be difficult to instill a good sense of morals in our children. This is especially hard when each parent has different moral views.
Your morals will play a role in your actions as well as how you judge the action of others. For example, you may feel the issue of abortion is the right of the mother while others believe it is completely wrong. In that case, you would be willing to understand if a friend was considering having an abortion. However, you may have strong morals against pre marital sex, so you would have a hard time supporting a friend who was pregnant and not married.
Our morals can change over time. As children, our morals are often based on what we are taught by our parents and other care givers. Children learn about morals from what they observe as well as what they are told. Children who grow up knowing their father has affairs may believe it is morally acceptable to do so. Other children who see their mother steal makeup from the store may believe it is acceptable to do so, even though their mother never told them it was.
As we become teenagers, we start to question so of the morals we have grown up with. While this can be viewed as rebelling, in many situations it is simply expressing your own beliefs. It can be quite an awakening when you realize some of the morals you have been taught aren’t what you really believe. This will be a turning point when you have to decide your own way.
Morals help guide or decisions and our ability to understand the decisions made by other people. They keep us walking on the path that is good and right because we know the other options are wrong to us. Some decisions are hard to make morally because we are caught in the middle of the road. During these times, it is best to take some time to weight the choices as well as the consequences of each choice. Our morals help keep our lives balanced and on track.
